Shore Excursion: Peninsula Valdes Wildlife Sanctuary

7 Hours

Peninsula Valdés, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999 for the extraordinary value of its biodiversity.
This portion of land joined by an isthmus to the South American continent is a breeding site for animals such as southern right whales, which come every year, from June to December, to the waters of the San Jose and Nuevo gulfs to mate, give birth to their pups and wean those from the previous year. Other animals that choose these coasts are elephant seals, which can be seen throughout the year, as well as reserves of fur seals, during different stages such as mating, breastfeeding, molting, etc. It is also the place that some families of orcas choose to feed and where they developed a unique hunting technique, intentional stranding, protruding a large part of their body over the shore in order to reach the pups of sea lions and elephant seals.

Its gravel roads are surrounded by nature, you can observe many species of sea and land birds such as cormorants, seagulls, petrels, penguins, jacks, harriers, calandrias, among others. And other species of native animals such as guanacos, ñandues, maras (Patagonian hare), furry animals, etc.

As long as time allows, when we return from Peninsula we will give you a city tour of Puerto Madryn before dropping you off back at the port.

DESCRIPTION

We leave the port towards Peninsula Valdés, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a privileged site for the fauna and flora it houses. We will transit the Carlos Ameghino Isthmus, the narrow strip of land that connects the peninsula to the continent, from where you can observe the Nuevo and San José Gulfs simultaneously. The first stop is the Interpretation Center, which gives us an introduction to what the visit to Peninsula Valdés will be like. From here we head to Caleta Valdés, an imposing geographical feature where you can see southern elephant seals. Then we moved to the picturesque Puerto Pirámides, where we took a City Tour and visited the Punta Pirámides sea lion farm to observe small sea lions from the cliffs. Finally we returned to the port. Possibility of seeing terrestrial fauna such as maras, guanacos and rheas throughout the tour.

unforgettable experience We set off on a trip into nature that turned out to be a real adventure. We were determined to explore the beauty of the area. After three hours of driving, we arrived. It soon became clear that it had been worth the effort. Along the way we saw a variety of animals including shy guanacos, maras, piche, cuis chico and majestic birds. Laura, our guide, was extremely informative and engaging. Her passion for nature was palpable and enriched the experience immensely. We then took a break to enjoy the lunch we had brought. Unfortunately, the food left me with some stomach discomfort. The whole trip was an unforgettable experience. The beauty of nature and the fascinating encounters will stay with me for a long time.

Porto Tombo .. Penguin Rookery Wonderful opportunity to visit the penguin rookery and the small but well presented museum. The tour guide, Mariana, was knowledgeable and outgoing. She was excellent and very very kind!! The pickup and drop off was on time and efficient and the driver was very safe… Would highly recommend!

Great tour from a cruise ship Very informed narration as we toured and our driver had an eagle’s eye for spotting wildlife along the way. He slowed down or stopped for photo ops. The air conditioned coach was comfortable and made the tour very enjoyable. Would definitely recommend this tour to see penguins, sea lions and so much more.

A very good experience. It was myself, my girlfriend and two other people in a car. The lady picked us up at our apartment that we were renting and the other two at their hotel. The guide was very informative and told us everything in Spanish and English. It took about two and a half hours to get there from Puerto Madryn. We stopped for a quick break at a gas station and even stopped for photos at the large Trelew dinosaur sign. She made it very easy to get in at the penguin reserve. We had plenty of time to enjoy the penguins and the entire reserve. Be sure to buy whatever you want from the gift shop ahead of time because you leave straight away and will not get to stop back in. I didn't and did not get the t-shirts I wanted. This is definitely worth it as you don't have to worry about driving yourself for 5 hours and get a good experience.

ABSOLUTELY 5 STAR EXPERIENCE First off it was spot on, you want to see penguins, you will see penguins and a bunch. The trip to Puerto Tombo is about 2.5 hours from cruise pier and yes some barren land but beautiful land and multiple chances of seeing llama, falcons, ostrich, sheep and many more. Also the beauty of a private tour for up to 4 is getting there before the numerous large bus groups. The tour company was in constant contact and we got to end of pier they were there with a sign with names on it. Our guide was 5 stars and unbelievably friendly, a wealth of knowledge on the area and wildlife. She loves her job and it shows. I've done allot of tours all over the world and definitely in top 5! Puerto Tombo was mind blowing with Penguins, there terrain, nests, and chicks and behavior. Yes you pay alittle more folks but don't shortcut a lifetime experience!!!

Excellent Punta Lomo and city tour with Fabien our guide Excellent tour to Punta Lomo and sights of Puerto Madryn. The seal lion colony at Punta Lomo was the highlight, grateful that the tour company advised on the best time to visit due to tides. Fabien our guide was very knowledgeable and informative on our tour, both about the wildlife and the local area. Fabien had even brought binoculars for us to see the sea lions more clearly. Our visit also included visits along the coastline, views from the cliffs, the monument and museum about the Welsh immigrants arriving into Puerto Madryn and a tour around the city.

Magellane pinguine nest at the coast of the south of Argentina Very interesting place. Each whole is a pinguine nest. You stop when pinguines cross the way going or coming back from the ocean.
